After a tough loss to Fuqua on Tuesday, the Miller baseball team bounced back and cruised passed Fork Union Military Academy, 5-1, on Thursday afternoon.

Miller starting pitcher Jeremy Walker pitched a complete game, striking out four batters while allowing just four hits.

?[Jeremy] did exactly what I was looking for,? Miller coach Sam Beale said. ?He just stepped up and threw strikes the whole game. He just kept cramming the ball in the zone all day and he only walked two batters. We needed somebody to step up and he did that today for us.?

Fork Union struck first when Mike Kloskey drove in future Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

The Mavericks responded in a big way in the bottom of the third. After Fork Union pitcher T.J. Dudley walked Jeremy Benner, Sam Ridenhour laid down a bunt and reached first base safely to record the first hit of the day for the Mavericks. Benner and Ridenhour were driven home on the next two at bats as Miller took a 2-1 lead.

?The third inning was good,? Beale said. ?Sam [Ridenhour] is an incredible bunter. That?s his third base hit off of a bunt. He kind of got it going for us.?

Miller continued to build its lead in the fourth inning. A single by Mike Daily drove home Henley Steele, and the Blue Devils walked in another run.?Miller was well balanced on offense as four different Mavericks recorded an RBI.

?We made big plays today,? Beale said. ?You?re going to make some mistakes, but the key is to make a big play when you need to. Things like that win ball games.?

Up next for the Mavericks is a clash with Covenant. Miller and the Eagles split the two meetings last year, with Covenant winning the last meeting 5-0. Beale stresses the importance of this rivalry game, and feels that the win over Fork Union gives his team the confidence it needs.

?I think we?re ready for them,? Beale said. ?They?ve whipped us several times in the last few years but I think we?re in a good spot now. I can tell that we had more chemistry today and that?s a good thing.?

LONDON - Britain's Finance Minister has cut the rate of tax the country's wealthiest citizens will pay but insisted the rich will pay more through a raft of measures to prevent tax avoidance and a punitive new charge on expensive property sales.

In his annual Budget statement yesterday, Mr George Osborne said he was cutting the top rate from 50 pence in the pound to 45 pence by April next year, arguing that the original higher rate did not yield as much as expected - partly because the rich were able to avoid tax.

Mr Osborne sought to deflect any criticism that any largesse was confined to the wealthy by announcing a big hike in the level that Britons start paying tax to ?9,205 (S$18,430). The cost of that measure will cost the Treasury around ?3.3 billion in 2013 to 2014.

"Together, the British people will share in the effort and share the rewards," Mr Osborne said at the conclusion of his hour-long statement. "This country borrowed its way into trouble, now we're going to earn our way out."

The 50 pence tax rate was introduced by the previous Labour government in response to the sharp deterioration in the country's public finances in the wake of a banking crisis that led to the country's deepest recession since World War II.

Mr Osborne insisted that the rich should pay a bigger proportion of their income than the poor and said he was offsetting the cut in the top rate by other taxes on wealth, including a new 7 per cent charge on the sale of houses valued over ?2 million.

Most of those are primarily located in London, which has been the favoured second home of choice for many of the world's super-rich. Mr Tony Ryland, a senior tax partner at London Chartered Accountants Blick Rothenberg, said the changes will have "a major effect on the London housing market, potentially driving away overseas buyers".

The leader of the Labour opposition, Mr Ed Miliband, pounced on Mr Osborne's decision to cut the top rate of tax, mocking him for his oft-repeated mantra that "we're all in this together" and that he had failed the fairness test.

"After today's Budget, millions will be paying more while millionaires pay less," Mr Miliband said.

Overall, the budget measures were broadly neutral - Mr Osborne has little room for manoeuvre, given the government's primary plan to dramatically reduce borrowing and the recent warnings from credit ratings agencies that the country risks losing its cherished triple A credit rating if the public finances don't improve as planned.

Mr Osborne has also been constrained by the muted recovery from recession. He said Britain's economy would likely to grow by 0.8 per cent this year, according to independent forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility, which is tasked by government to come up with economic projections.

That's slightly higher than the 0.7-per-cent increase it forecast as recently in November. AP

Currently Jessica is cosplaying as Juliet Sterling the heroine of Lollipop Chainsaw the brain-child of James Gunn and Suda 51. Jessica is the sitting image of Juliet it?s almost scary, if you never knew about the game (which you should have already because the game is awesome) you would have thought they model the character of Juliet off of Jessica.

Report Shows Progress, Decline in Personal Finance Education

After twelve years of surveying the state of economics and personal financial education around the country, The Council for Economic Education finds cause for both hope and concern. The 2011 edition of the Survey of the States: Economic and Personal Finance Education in Our Nation?s Schools shows that while there has been an improvement since the survey was first published in 1998, in the past two years, some districts have begun to give back the gains they have made in the teaching of these subjects since the survey began.

?While many states have addressed this gap in education curriculum, there is still a large segment of the American K-12 student population that is not being exposed to economic and financial education,?said CEE President & CEO Nan J. Morrison

The 2008 recession and the events that precipitated it brought home the importance of a financially literate population and improved understanding of economics. And while the report findings show that 22 states now require a course in economics as part of the high school graduation requirements, a gain of one since 2009, three fewer states now test the student knowledge of the subject before they leave school.

The picture is even grimmer for the subject of personal finance. Few states include courses on money management in their high school curriculum, much less require students to take the subject in order to obtain a diploma. Overall, only 13 states that comprise about 25% of the U.S. population have personal finance high school requirements, which leaves nearly three-quarters of Americans without any personal finance courses by the time they leave high school and enroll in college.

The report was written by the CEE in partnership with the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economic Foundation which is named after its founder Mr. Kazanjian, who, as a long-timer businessman and manager believed that the country would derive great economic benefit from citizens who understood economic concepts and principles. He proposed the Economic Foundation in 1947 as a means of advancing these beliefs.

Obama Introduces Bullying Documentary on Cartoon Network

President Obama opened up a 30-minute documentary on childhood bullying for Cartoon Network this evening, continuing awareness initiatives he set into motion last year.

The minute-long introduction, which was pre-taped, featured the president speaking directly to the camera for the documentary titled "To SPEAK UP Against Bullying,"? a 30-minute special broadcast that aired Sunday on Cartoon Network.

"Bullying is not a rite of passage or harmless part of growing up," Obama said. "It's wrong. Its destructive and we can all prevent it."

Obama said that for him the issue is personal.

"I care about this issue deeply, not just as the president, but as a dad," he said referring to his two daughters, Sasha and Malia.

The president mentioned last year's White House summit on bullying prevention in his opening remarks, adding that partnerships have been made "with schools and parents to raise awareness."

According to the White House an estimated 13 million students are bullied each year.

As he closed his remarks, Obama left viewers with a call to action to do more.

"Everyone has to take action against bullying," he said. "Everyone has an obligation to make our schools and our communities safer for all our kids."

The commercial-free documentary, which extends the network's social initiative Stop Bullying: Speak Up, aired on Cartoon Network across the country today at 5:30 p.m.

It featured a number of kids, mostly between the ages of 8 and 13, as well as a number of famous athletes, including tennis star Venus Williams, soccer goalie Hope Solo, extreme bike trickster Matt Wilhelm, and Joey Logano, the youngest NASCAR champ.

The children spoke about their own bullying experiences and how to stand up to bullies.

Young Aaron Cheese said he used to "fight back tears when called names," causing his grades to fall.

"It wasn't a really fun elementary-middle school experience for me," Cheese said.

Other children recounted similar experiences.

"You'd feel really vulnerable," Alye Pollack said, recounting the names she was called: "Oh, you're so fat, goodbye and push me into a locker."

She said her tormentors prompted her to create a YouTube video titled " WORDS DO HURT" to explain to her tormenters how she feels.

Her actions led to apologies, with one child who saw the video telling her how sorry he was for his actions and eventually sticking up for her against another bully.

BMX star?Matt Willhelm told a story of how he too was bullied as a child, which eventually led to his desire to do trick biking.

The documentary featured scenarios for how to handle bullies, as well as allowing the children to explain why they don't speak up - and why they should.

According to Cartoon Network's website the documentary "captures the authentic, everyday stories of America's bullied kids and the youth who have helped them" and "seeks to empower all kids to take part in the growing movement to help bring an end to bullying."

As a result, Archos' first Google-certified Android tablet range is gaining three new SKUs.

First up is the Archos 80 G9 Turbo ICS, which comes with a 1.5GHz CPU, an 8-inch screen and Android 4.0. It's available for £200 (~$310) with 8GB of flash storage or £240 (~$380) for 16GB. There's also the equally clumsy-sounding Archos 101 G9 Turbo ICS, which offers similar specs on a 10-inch display -- that's yours for £270 (~$425) with 16GB of storage.
